Why Does Suno Make 2 Songs at Once?
Suno makes two songs from every prompt because that is how the tool is built: each time you hit Create, it renders two different takes so you can compare them and keep the one you like. Suno charges 10 credits for that pair, not 5 for a single song.
This is not a glitch or a wasted click. Suno has worked this way since its earliest models, and it still works this way on Suno v6, v6-wild and v6-mini, the only models available now that Suno retired older versions. AI song generation is unpredictable: the same prompt and lyrics can produce very different melodies, vocal takes and arrangements each run, so giving you two versions per generation raises the odds that at least one is a keeper.
The tradeoff is credits. According to Suno's help center, each time you generate, you make two songs for a total cost of 10 credits, on every Suno plan. If you only wanted one song, you still get two, and you still pay for both.
Why Suno defaults to two songs
Text-to-music models don't hit the same result twice, even with identical lyrics and style tags. One take might nail the vocal but rush the hook, and the other might do the opposite. Rather than make you guess and re-run the prompt, Suno renders two full versions in one generation so you can pick the stronger one without spending extra credits to get a second opinion.
How many credits that actually costs you
Suno's plans set how many credits you get, and 10 credits buys one generation, which is two songs. Based on current pricing at Suno's pricing page:
- Free: 50 credits a day, about 5 generations, or 10 songs a day.
- Pro, $8 a month: 2,500 credits a month, about 250 generations, or 500 songs a month.
- Premier, $24 a month: 10,000 credits a month, about 1,000 generations, or 2,000 songs a month.
Can you get just one song instead of two
No. Every standard Create action returns two songs, on every plan, and there's no setting to turn that off. Once you've picked a favorite, though, you're not stuck working on both. Extend and Cover apply only to the one clip you choose, and on Suno v6 you can edit a single lyric line or rework one section of just that song without touching the other version at all.
What to do with your two songs
Treat the pair as two drafts, not two finished tracks. Listen to both before you commit, then build on the one that works and leave the other alone.
- Listen to both clips in full. A strong intro can hide a weak chorus, or the other way around.
- Deleting the version you don't want does not refund credits. Suno already charged for the pair when you hit Create.

- If neither take works, change the prompt or lyrics and generate again. That's a new pair, and a new 10 credits.

Does deleting one of the two songs refund credits?
No. Suno charges for both songs the moment you hit Create, before you've heard either one. Deleting your least favorite afterward doesn't return any credits.
Do all Suno plans get two songs per generation?
Yes. Free, Pro and Premier all work the same way: one Create action returns two songs for 10 credits, whether you're on the $0 Free plan or the $24 a month Premier plan.
Does Udio also make two songs per prompt?
Yes. Udio's help center says each prompt generates two songs too, so you can compare and keep the better one, the same pattern Suno uses. Keep in mind Udio has disabled song, stem and video downloads for everyone since October 2025, so neither version can be pulled out of Udio to release or reuse. Can you extend or edit just one of the two songs later?
Yes. Suno keeps both versions in your library after a generation. You can extend, edit or download either one on its own, and working on one doesn't lock out or delete the other unless you remove it yourself.
