Suno v6: What Changed, and What It Means for You

The three v6 models

Suno split v6 into three models, each for a different job.

• v6: the flagship. Best quality and the most predictable results. Pro and Premier plans.
• v6-wild: built for exploring. Less predictable, with more unusual textures. Good for niche genres that mainstream-leaning models flatten out. Paid plans.
• v6-mini: faster and lighter. Free for everyone, so it is what free users now create with.

What is new in v6

Suno says v6 is faster, more expressive and higher quality, with a better grasp of the building blocks of a song: vocals, instruments, structure, mood and references. The practical changes:

• Edit with words: change part of a song with a text instruction, like "change the chorus to a gospel choir", without regenerating the whole track.
• Fix one lyric: update a single line without redoing the song.
• Mashups: combine more than one source into a new track.
• Samples and beats: isolate a sample and build a beat around it.
• More ways in: start from text, audio, images or video.

Why the old models are gone

v6 is the first Suno generation built with record labels as licensed partners. Warner Music Group, BMG, Believe and TuneCore now have licensing deals, and Suno is sharing a portion of revenue with them. Keeping the older, unlicensed models running would undercut those deals, so Suno is moving everything onto v6.

Not everyone signed. Universal Music Group, Sony Music, Canada's SOCAN, Round Hill Music and individual musicians are still suing Suno, according to Music Ally.

What happens to your old songs

Songs you already made stay in your library and stay playable and shareable. The catch is the sound: the model that made them is retired, and there is no way to pick an older version. If you had a hit and want a follow-up that sounds the same, you now have to recreate that sound on v6 with new prompts.

What did not change

Some of the rules you already know carry over.

• Voices, Custom Models and My Taste still work on compatible v6 models. See how to sing on your Suno songs.
• Download caps from September 3, 2026 still apply: 7 downloads in total on Free (personal use only), 20 a month on Pro and 60 a month on Premier. Details in Suno download limits.
• Commercial use still needs a paid plan, and you must download a song before you release or sell it.

Should you upgrade your plan for v6?

If you release music or make it for clients, yes. The full v6 model and v6-wild are only on paid plans, and paid plans are the only way to download songs you can use commercially. If you just make songs for fun, v6-mini on the free plan is a good way to try the new model first.
