Suno & Udio

Suno vs Udio (2026): Which AI Music Generator Should You Use?

Quick answer

For almost everyone in 2026, Suno wins. Suno v6 makes strong full songs and paid plans let you download and release them (within monthly caps). Udio still sounds good, but it has not allowed any downloads since October 30, 2025, so you cannot use its songs outside Udio.

For two years, "Suno vs Udio" was a close call: Suno for vocals and song structure, Udio for audio fidelity and stems. Two events settled it.

First, on October 30, 2025, Udio switched off all audio, video and stem downloads as part of its settlement with Universal Music Group (Udio Help Center). Second, on September 9, 2026, Suno launched v6, its first models trained partly on licensed music, with text-based editing and three model options (Suno: Introducing v6).

This page is our single, up-to-date comparison. It replaces our older "Udio vs Suno" and "Suno and Udio" pages.

The short answer

Pick by what you need to do with the music.

  • You want to release, sell or monetize songs: Suno, on a paid plan.
  • You want the best vocals and song structure: Suno v6.
  • You only create for fun and share links: either works. Udio is fine as a create-and-listen app.
  • You need stems: make the song in Suno, then split it with a stem splitter.
  • You need background music for videos: a royalty-free tool like Soundraw may suit you better than either. See royalty-free music for YouTube.

Sound and vocals

Udio built its reputation on sound: a wide stereo image, deep mixes and realistic instruments. That is still true inside the app. Suno was always stronger at vocals and song structure, and v6 closes much of the fidelity gap with more expressive, higher-quality output and a better grasp of instruments and mood.

v6 also brings editing with words, so you can change just the chorus or one lyric line. Udio has nothing equivalent. For more on prompting, see our Suno v6 prompt guide.

Downloads: the deciding factor

This is where the comparison ends for most creators.

Udio: no downloads of audio, video or stems for any user since October 30, 2025. A one-time 48-hour window (November 3-5, 2025) has closed. A licensed Udio platform is expected later in 2026, with no firm date and no promise about downloads. Full details: can you still download Udio songs?

Suno: downloads work, but with caps since September 3, 2026: 7 in total on Free (personal use only), 20 a month on Pro and 60 a month on Premier, with extra downloads for sale (Music Business Worldwide). See Suno download limits.

Commercial use and licensing

Suno grants commercial use on paid plans, and you must download a track before you release, sell or license it. v6 is trained partly on music licensed from Warner, BMG and Believe, though Universal, Sony and others are still suing Suno.

Udio has settled with Universal, Warner, Merlin and Kobalt, but because nothing can be downloaded, its songs cannot be released, synced or monetized outside Udio today. For the rules in depth, read Suno commercial use and Udio commercial use.

Price

Suno: free (v6-mini, 7 downloads total, personal use), Pro at about $8 to $10 a month (v6 and v6-wild, 20 downloads a month) and Premier at about $24 to $30 a month (60 downloads a month, unlimited Suno Studio downloads). Udio: free and paid plans still exist, and after the download shutdown Udio raised monthly credits (Standard 1,200 to 2,400, Pro 4,800 to 6,000). You pay for creating and listening, not for files. See Suno pricing and Udio pricing.

Frequently asked

Is Suno or Udio better in 2026?

Suno, for almost every use. Suno v6 makes excellent songs and paid plans can download them. Udio has not allowed downloads since October 30, 2025.

Does Udio sound better than Suno?

Udio has long been praised for audio fidelity, but Suno v6 closes much of that gap, and Udio songs cannot leave the app, so sound alone rarely decides it now.

Can I download songs from Udio?

No. Audio, video and stem downloads have been disabled for all users since October 30, 2025.

Which is better for YouTube or Spotify?

Suno on a paid plan, because you can download the song and have commercial rights. Udio songs cannot be exported.

Which has the better free plan?

Suno. Its free plan uses v6-mini and allows 7 downloads in total for personal use. Udio's free plan is create-and-listen only.
