Can You Still Download Udio Songs? (2026 Answer)
No. Udio disabled all audio, video and stem downloads on October 30, 2025 as part of its Universal Music Group settlement, and they are still off in September 2026. You can play and share songs inside Udio, but you cannot export the files.
If the download button in Udio has gone grey, nothing is wrong with your account. Udio switched off downloads for every user, free and paid, on October 30, 2025. It was a condition of the company's legal settlement with Universal Music Group (UMG).
The change also hit songs made before the deal. Udio opened a one-time 48-hour window from November 3 to 5, 2025 so people could rescue their old tracks. That window is closed and has not reopened.
This page covers what still works, what does not, what might change when Udio's licensed platform launches, and where to make music you can actually download and release today.
What changed, and when
Udio's Help Center says it plainly: "downloading of audio, video, and stems has been disabled." Here is the timeline.
- October 29-30, 2025: Udio settles with Universal Music Group and turns off downloads for all users.
- November 3-5, 2025: after user backlash, Udio reopens downloads for 48 hours so people can save existing songs.
- November 2025 to April 2026: Udio signs further deals with Warner Music Group, Merlin (independent labels) and Kobalt (publishing).
- February 2026: the Help Center confirms downloads remain disabled.
- September 2026: still disabled. No return date has been announced.
What you can still do in Udio
Udio still works as a place to create and listen. You can generate songs, play them in the app, and share a udio.com link that anyone can open without an account.
To soften the change, Udio raised monthly credits for subscribers: Standard went from 1,200 to 2,400 credits, Pro from 4,800 to 6,000, and every subscriber got a one-time bonus of 1,000 credits that do not expire.
- Generate and edit songs as before.
- Play your library inside Udio.
- Share a public udio.com link.
- Not possible: MP3 or WAV export, stems, video export, bulk playlist downloads.
Can I screen-record or rip the audio instead?
Technically, recording your speaker output captures a lossy stereo mix. We do not recommend it. You get no stems and worse quality, and it very likely breaks Udio's terms of use. More importantly, the whole point of the settlement is that those songs are not cleared for use outside Udio. Uploading them to Spotify, YouTube or a client project puts you at real risk of takedowns and Content ID claims.
If a song matters to you, save the prompt and lyrics instead. You can rebuild the idea on a platform that lets you download and own the result.
Will Udio downloads come back?
Maybe, but nobody should plan around it. Udio has said it is building a fully licensed platform, expected later in 2026, and that it hopes to bring back some form of download. Reports describe a "walled garden" with encrypted streams, inaudible watermarks and fingerprinting to block uploads of matching songs.
That suggests any future download will come with strict rules about where the audio can go. There is no launch date and no promise about what downloads will look like.
Where to make music you can download today
If you need an actual file for a video, a release or a client, use a tool that still exports. Our full list is in Udio alternatives, but the short version:
- Suno (paid plan): the closest replacement for full songs with vocals. Downloads are now capped at 20 a month on Pro and 60 on Premier, and the free plan is personal-use only.
- ElevenLabs Eleven Music: full songs with vocals, trained on licensed music, with commercial use on paid plans.
- Soundraw: royalty-free instrumentals with no download caps, built for YouTube, podcasts and ads.
- Lalal.ai: if you need stems, split a song you legally own (for example a Suno export).

Frequently asked
Can I download my old Udio songs?
No. Downloads for all songs, including ones made before October 2025, have been disabled since October 30, 2025. The only exception was a 48-hour window on November 3-5, 2025, which is closed.
Does a paid Udio plan let me download?
No. The change applies to every plan. Paid subscribers got extra credits instead, but no downloads.
Can I still download stems from Udio?
No. Stem downloads were disabled at the same time as audio and video. For stems, split a song you own with a tool like Lalal.ai or Moises.
Can I put Udio songs on Spotify?
Not safely. You cannot export the audio, and ripping it would likely break Udio's terms and trigger copyright claims. Use a platform that grants download and commercial rights instead.
When will Udio downloads be back?
There is no date. Udio says a licensed platform is coming later in 2026 and it hopes to restore some form of download, but it has made no promises.
